Sarasota Circus Ring of Fame Announces 2015 Inductees
SARASOTA, FL – In keeping within the great circus traditions of Sarasota, the Circus Ring of Fame is delighted to announce its choices for induction into this prestigious institution. The Ring honors those members of the circus arts it feels warrant recognition for their contribution to the world of circus. The honorees’ plaques are prominently displayed on St. Armands Circle, adding to the appeal of this wonderful Sarasota location, and offering an insight to more of our local heritage. The date for the ceremony is Sunday, January 11, 2015, at 2:00 PM and is open free of charge for everyone. Included in the festivities is a concert of circus music provided by the Sarasota Circus Band starting at 1:30 PM.
Inductees for the 28th Annual Sarasota Ring of Fame include the Del Moral Troupe, innovators and originators in the art of perch-pole balancing; Fred D. Pfening, Jr., noted circus historian and author; Miguel Vazquez, one of the greatest trapeze flyers of all time and the first to consistently complete the amazing quadruple somersault to his catcher; Jacqueline Zerbini, famous for her trapeze artistry and her training of several species of animals including tigers and lions; and H.S.H. Prince Rainier of Monaco, whose life-long enthusiasm for circus resulted in the creation of the Circus Festival of Monte Carlo, regarded as the most prestigious event of its type in the world.
A lively panel discussion with the inductees, or their representatives, will take place on Saturday, January 10th at 9:30 AM, at Sailor Circus Arena, located at 2075 Bahia Vista St. Attendees will have the opportunity to discover more about the inductees lives and their dedication to the circus world.
The Circus Ring of Fame Foundation is an non-profit 501(C)(3) organization founded in 1987. Each year it has recognized worthy individuals or groups, who have made significant contributions to the circus. Donations are welcomed. The addition of the 2015 inductees will bring to 120 the number that has been honored since the Ring’s founding. Just recently, one of the founders and long term president, Mr. Floyd Kruger, passed away. He was devoted to this annual event and his presence will be missed.
