FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CIRCUS RING OF FAME TO INDUCT NEW MEMBERS
Once again, the major event of the local award season is upon us, as The Circus Ring of Fame Foundation, Inc. inducts its Class of 2017 into the famous St. Armands Circle Ring of Fame. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 PM, with a circus band concert featuring sixty musicians known as Windjammers and conducted by Andrew Glover preceding the festivities at 1:15 PM. All events are open to the public and add greatly to Sarasota’s circus heritage.
This year’s class includes famous aerialist Reggie Armor, stunning sword balancer Dora Foster “Rogana”, circus impresario Henry Ringling North, wire walkers and aerialists The Pedrolas, the guru of circus marketing Allen Bloom, and one of the most famous horses in circusdom, Starless Night.
Members of the Carousel Organ Association of America (COAA) and the Musical Box Society International (MBSI) will have a presence around the Circle and throughout the area, with their wonderful instruments starting Saturday morning and continuing throughout the day. This is a rather unique group of collectors and their music is reminiscent of an earlier era of street performances not to be missed.
On Friday, the 13th of January, the inductees will be featured on a panel at a meet-and-greet opportunity at the Showfolks of Sarasota. Again this is open to everyone. There will be a circus memorabilia flea market, and members of the COAA and MBSI will be at the club with their instruments. Breakfast will be available. The Showfolks Club is at 5204 North Lockwood Ridge Road, and opens at 9:00 AM with the event planned for 10:00 AM. This is also an opportunity to visit the unique Showfolks Club, seldom open to the public.
