CIRCUS RING OF FAME ANNOUNCES NEWEST MEMBERS

SARASOTA, FLA.–The late Tim Holst, whose unerring eye for circus talent  helped Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey perpetuate its claim as “The Greatest Show on Earth”, has been elected to the prestigious Circus Ring of Fame.  Along with two  others, he will be inducted into the Ring January 13 at Sarasota, Florida’s St. Armands Circle.

Joining the Ring with Holst will be highwire walkers, Charles and Mathias  Coronas and the Pablo Rodriguez family of aerialists.

The non-profit Ring of Fame foundation annually recognizes a few circus  notables who have made significant contributions to the circus.  Since its 1988  founding, 112 individuals and group acts have thus far been inducted into it.

A 37-year Ringling Bros. veteran, Holst worked his way up through the ranks of the circus’s organization, starting out as a clown.  He served successively as ringmaster, assistant performance director and production manager before being tapped for management.

In his last position as Vice President of Talent and Production, he scoured  the globe annually, seeking out new and unique high caliber performers for Ringling  Bros.’ three performing units.  He passed away in 2009 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, while on  one of his searches.

During much of the second half of the twentieth century, Czechoslovakian-born brothers, Charles and Mathias Coronas astounded audiences by introducing  innovative and often risky routines on the highwire.  After persevering through two  world wars, they came to the U.S. in 1952 to appear for George Hamid, Sr. at Atlantic  City’s  Steel Pier and at Hamid’s many Shrine dates.  Performing together and with  the augmentation of family members, the brothers appeared on virtually every major  American circus.  Eventually, they produced their own circuses and thrill shows  which they ran successfully for many years.

Mathias passed way in 2006.  Charles, who will hit the century mark  on November 20, is expected to attend the ceremony.

The career of Pablo Rodriguez and his family was divided between North  America and Europe.  They were best known for their five-bar aerial bar act which was developed in the U.S. and Mexico and which they introduced to enthusiastic Europeans in 1962 on  Sweden’s Circus Scott.   The act was so popular that it was booked on Europe’s most outstanding circuses for 17 years without interruption.

On returning to the United States, Rodriquez developed a triple-wide flying  trapeze act that met with much of the same acclaim with American audiences as had  the aerial bar with the Europeans.

The Ring of Fame is administered by The Circus Ring of Fame Foundation,  Inc., a non-profit, 501(C093) organization.  Queries and tax-deductible donations to  should be directed to the Foundation at P.O. Box 17591, Sarasota, FL 34276.
